This is a very experimental exhibition that forges new ground in our thinking about objects and categories. Mingei are things that were produced in the Edo and Meiji period and have come to be recognized for their aesthetic beauty. Mingei objects are disappearing and thus there is a strong commitment to preserving them. The konbini seems to be the opposite. These stores and the materials they contain are the heart of contemporary commercial society. But are the konbini and mingei objects really so different? Probably during the Edo period, the objects that are now valued and so carefully preserved were ordinary and disposable.
